*Seattle - speak to Liv and then Don E
      *Oceanic Museum in Miami
      *Tree Hill has a gym
*The HM for Rock Smash is in the Scott family's house after battling them
*Lex Luthor is in the New View Tunnel in the room blocked by the Rock Smash rock

    Replies
    1. In Los Angeles, talk to Agent Coulson by the gym, then talk to Chuck, pretty much directly below Coulson. Afterward, go to the top of the very tall building on the left side of the city. Afterward, you should be approached by Arvin Sloane as you leave. Then, speak with Angel at the Hyperion Hotel (in the middle of the city). At this point, you will be able to continue on over the bridge.
[Sorry - I know it's a lot, but it's meant to encourage exploring within the game, as the game's story involves speaking with various npcs in order to progress]

      Delete
    2. Just as a correction, the very tall building is on the right side of the city... sorry...

      Delete
  10. where do you go after getting the fourth gym badge?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The fifth gym is back in River City - you can take the Cross Country Cable Car from San Francisco (right behind the gym) back to New York (and vice versa) to save travel time. After that gym, you need to go to Santa Barbara (which is below the Safari Zone) before you can head past San Francisco.

      Delete
  11. Hey is Espeon in the game? If so how can I get one since the sun stone is a replacement for the fire stone that evolved my Vulpix, my team is currently in the 50's so an Espeon would really help as of now (yes I know Eevee doesn't evolve into Espeon with a sun stone but in some rom hacks the creator changes it so that Eevee evolves that way)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The following are the ways to evolve Eevee:
[Note that the Transition Eevee is there due to the GBA's innate limitations on evolution methods for a single Pokemon]

      Eevee - Flareon: Sun Stone
      Eevee - Jolteon: Thunder Stone
      Eevee - Vaporeon: Water Stone
Eevee - Transition Eevee: Reverse Stone
Transition Eevee - Espeon: Sun Stone
Transition Eevee - Umbreon: Moon Stone
Transition Eevee - Leafeon: Leaf Stone
Transition Eevee - Glaceon: Water Stone
Transition Eevee - Sylveon: Max Happiness

So... for Espeon, just use a Reverse Stone and then a Sun Stone.

      Delete
    2. Alright thank you, I was wondering why there were two versions of Eevee, now I know, I tip my hat to you lol, also did you just get rid of the fire stone completely? Or something

      Delete
    3. The Fire Stone was replaced with the Reverse Stone

      Delete
    4. What does transition Eevee look like?

      Delete
    5. The transition Eevee basically looks like Eevee - just a little different so it's easier to tell them apart

    1. After challenging the River City Gym, as Norman suggests, go to Santa Barbara (which is below the Safari Zone) - speak to Shawn at Psych, then go to the police department. After finishing the story stuff there, speak to the police chief back at the Santa Barbara Police Department so she can give you the HM for Surf. Then, you can head past San Francisco. However, in order to access Sunnydale, you need to head through the maze on Route 19 (not around it).

    1. The official site has a text walkthrough. If you haven't already, find the Queen of Hearts in Wonderland and beat her, then go find the hidden spaceship in Meteor Falls, the first rock you see when you go through the Roswell entrance. Give the spaceship to a man in the Roswell cafe, where he gives you the goggles to go through the sandstorm route. On the top right corner of that route is Jack, speak to him, and a battle will ensue.

  32. Do you add armored mewtwo?and where is kyurem?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There's no armored Mewtwo, but Mewtwo itself is in the game. In the plot and features section, I added hints about the legendary Pokemon locations (I don't like to just flat-out tell where the locations are - I feel like that kind of spoils part of the fun of the game, lol).
That said, for Kyurem, think of somewhere cold for such a cool Pokemon.

      Delete
    2. I did not change any stats - the only real changes to the Pokemon themselves were making Xerneas Psychic/Grass instead of Normal and correcting an oversight, where Ribombee was supposed to be made Bug/Psychic (but was initially made Bug/Flying) (Cutiefly is still Bug/Flying).

      Delete
    3. Types and base stats are listed in a spreadsheet on the game's website under the Evolution/Form/Type Changes tab at https://latiosazurill.wixsite.com/pokemonpolkaaqua/new-evolutions-type-changes.

  39. Why was fire chosen over rock for the starter typings?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Also, does the Totodile family learn Dragon type moves?

      Delete
    2. The Totodile line does learn a few Dragon moves. I went with Fire rather than Rock in this case since I liked Vulpix as a potential starter. Also, there weren't a whole lot of Rock-type evolutionary lines to choose from in the game (other than fossils and a pseudo-legendary line). I suppose I could have used Rockruff as a starter, but I didn't want to repeat a starter choice from Scorching Scarlet.

  44. Just a heads up: I just posted a new update, bringing it to V. 1.6. This update adds in the Physical/Special Split and the Fairy-typing. There have been a few small adjustments to typings and movepools, and trainers to accommodate this change.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I know that I just posted V. 1.6 yesterday, but I posted another update, V. 1.7, today, which updates the player's map so it better reflects the game's actual map (though it unfortunately does not add any new flying locations). It also fixes a small glitch involving the move Aura Sphere.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Cool. Thanks for the heads up.

      Delete
    2. There is now a V. 1.8, but all it really does is adjust the player's map slightly and give a small buff to the move Waterfall. Details around the past few updates are highlighted in a small trailer I just uploaded.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Pyroar is unfortunately not in this game - Litleo is one of the few Pokemon in this game that is missing its evolution.

      Delete
  47. Sorry about all of the recent updates - now, in V. 1.10, there are more evolution stones available, which makes evolution methods a little bit more logical. This includes the Fire Stone, Ice Stone, Shiny Stone, Dusk Stone, and Dawn Stone.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Due to the popular request for reusable TMs, V. 1.11 of Pokemon Polka Aqua adds in the ability to reuse TMs.

    1. First of all, thanks for making such a nice hackrom and thanks to Knuckles San for his amazing blog.

I wanted to report a little bug (or something of that sort). A berry tree on route 12 gives the player 56 Kelpsy Berries. Once again, thanks for the hack, reusable TMs are quite useful!

      Delete
    2. Thank you for mentioning this. As a matter of fact, one of the beta testers noticed that rather early on - however, I still cannot figure out what causes it (and it does not always give 56 berries). It does seem harmless enough, though. So... enjoy getting some extra berries, lol. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the game!

      Delete
    3. Why are you encouraging users to abuse bugs instead of fixing them or atleast forbid the abuse of bugs

      Delete
    4. Well... considering how cheap berries are in this game, it barely makes a difference. Since the berries can be bought in the Miami Market anyway for $100 apiece (I'm calling it dollars for now rather than PokeYen for simplicity's sake), the 56 does not result in more than the player should be able to obtain. In fact, other than for Pokeblock and Safari Zone use, they aren't really all that useful - and can instead be sold for money. If all 56 berries were sold, it would only result in $2,800, which is less money than the average trainer battle would yield anyway. Thus, this particular glitch is rather harmless. Although I could completely remove that particular berry tree, I personally feel it, in this case, is rather unnecessary. There have been glitches noticed in the past that were very exploitable which were dealt with accordingly, but this one just doesn't seem like a particularly big deal.

  50. Just a heads up: v.1.14 is out, which makes a few small adjustments and adds some items used for changing the forms of certain legendary Pokemon.

  52. There is another new update to Pokemon Polka Aqua (V.1.16), which updates the Repel system - now, when one expires, the game asks if the player wants to use another one. If the player says yes, then the game asks which type of repel, giving all three options. If the player chooses a type of repel that the player does not currently have, the game will say that the player is out of that specific type of repel and loop back to asking if the player would like to use another repel. If the player is out of all three types of repels, then when one expires, the game does not ask if the player wants to use another repel at all (after all, that would be kind of pointless, lol)

    1. Get the HM for Dive from Lex in Sunnydale (below the school) - then use Dive from the deep water right above Sunnydale.

  56. So... I put out a new update (V.1.17) that adds another key item, called the Scuba Gear, which can be used in the overworld in place of the HM for Dive.

  57. I put up another new update (V.1.20). This one improves a few smaller events (that are in the post-game) to make them a little more interesting. The update also adds a little more balance into the game.

    2. You can get the update directly from the download tab on the game's official website: https://latiosazurill.wixsite.com/pokemonpolkaaqua

    3. Sorry for the delay. As mentioned, you should probably download the game directly from the official website in the future as it's already in a ROM format.

    1. Well... the game is mostly done - it's currently being beta tested, though a few new things are added in once in a while.
Some of those new things added have also been retroactively added into the original Polka Aqua (hence the seemingly common updates).

    1. It is essentially the same layout as the ordinary Ruby/Sapphire Lavaridge Town Gym - the layout of it is on Bulbapedia at https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Lavaridge_Gym

  60. I just posted Pokemon Polka Aqua v1.21, which makes a couple more small adjustments.

  61. After posting v1.21, I realized a relatively big (though not game-breaking) oversight, which has been corrected in the new v1.22 (sorry about the problem caused by v1.21 and the need for this update...)

    1. I've tried both of those things in the past with no success - it could happen in the future, but I don't want to get anyone's hopes up since it's unfortunately not particularly likely...

  66. I do like the fact that the game is challenging, but at the same time, I feel it's kind of unbalanced. I mean, literally any Pokémon can learn any kind of move. It makes no sense that a fire type Pokémon is using an attack like water pulse or surf or blizzard. I do love the surprise elements the creator has put in, for example the type changes, the changed locations, the special 'baby Pokémon' at various places holding leftovers as an item and all. But the unbalanced battling system really turns me off, especially the fact that how can a Pokémon as puny as Azurill or Teddiursa can 2HKO my fully evolved Pokémon and even outspeed them when I'm at a higher level. There's a fine line between a challenging battling system and one that just doesn't make any sense. Why didn't my unevolved Vulpix and Eevee have such a high power level? Also I'm assuming that all the gym leaders seem to kind of have Pokémon with perfect EVs and IVs. Then to make things worse they use full restores as well which is a great turn off for battlers like me who don't use any items in a battle except held items since it robs the joy and suspense out of the whole thing. Also, there are like A LOT of NPCs but most of them don't really contribute anything to the main story and just say a bunch of movie dialogues not everyone has the patience to read one by one. A game is more of a visual experience instead of a book of quotes. Sure, you can add those filler NPCs or characters but, like, in a limit. In the original games, most of the NPCs either tell you something related to the story, give you an item, or idk just anything relevant to Pokémon. So yeah. I am really enjoying the game so far as it's quite different, but the two concerns that I have, an unbalanced battling system and the addition of too many filler NPCs, are putting me off.

    1. Thank you for your feedback. In most cases where an npc outspeeds when your Pokemon is at a higher level, especially in a battle against a gym leader or professor, it is likely due to a Quick Claw rather than a stat advantage. For the sake of balance, stat buffs were given to all Pokemon in the game - the extent depended on the context of the Pokemon, availability early on, etc. As for the starters, they each have an equal BST - they have reasonably decent base stats, but if they were too broken, the game would have become too easy. I will admit that the buff to Pay Day (being my favorite move in the game) is a bit much, though, as a normal type move, it is easily outclassed by super effective stab later in the game (when applicable). Regarding Pokemon, like Azurill and Teddiursa, since they both get access to Huge Power, they do hit pretty hard despite being unevolved. However, part of the message in the game was that evolution isn't strictly necessary for a Pokemon to be powerful (hence the professor's Reverse Stone). While players are free to disagree, or even dislike, this message, that is part of the reason why I tried to occasionally throw in battles like that. Of course, fully evolved Pokemon do still have a base stat advantage (though in many cases in the game, unevolved Pokemon get access to better movesets than the evolved ones as an incentive to use unevolved Pokemon). While the battle system is definitely not perfect, and to many players may feel arbitrary, I don't know if I'd necessarily call it unbalanced - it's definitely more difficult than one would expect, but I don't know if I'd necessarily point all that blame to balance itself. While most Pokemon get a lot of additional type coverage, which can, and likely does, bother many players, the main reasons I did this was to add an additional layer of challenge (regarding npc teams) and additional customization for players (regarding players' teams). After all, this allows players to have more type coverage on their teams without having to sacrifice certain party members for the sake of more coverage (albeit at the likely expense of stab). As for the npcs, I tried to have most of them give useful items, but then realized I was running out of flags and items are almost all purchasable and extremely cheap to begin with. The original concept of the game was "what if a Pokemon adventure existed in each of those shows/movies", which was why I wanted to fit all of the stuff in the game. Overall, I wanted to make the game unique and challenging. I apologize for such a long response. Once again, thank you - I truly do appreciate your feedback.

  67. Great. A game full of obscure references all for the sake of one person to enjoy, a house crammed anywhere the base map would allow, steps towards progression that are ANYTHING but straight-forward. All moves scaled up to the point where type advantages no longer exist for the most part. I'm 6 levels ahead of the first gym on all mons and all of them get one-shot BY PAY DAY. FUCKING PAY DAY. What is this abomination??
