Hack of the Year 2019

The poll has been closed. Thanks for all the votes! For those who did not participate, each person was allowed to pick his/her top 3 hacks from a pre-made list (taken from Pokecommunity). Please do not take the results too seriously as they are a measure of popularity more than anything else. It's nice to know that every hack on the list was present in someone's top 3.

If you'd like to, you can also comment below which hack was your favorite and why.

  1. I had more than 3 choices, it was a good year. Thanks for this. I voted for the following.

    1. Kanlara Ultimate - played it twice this year, the second time was because of the Autumn Update, which significantly improved the hack, almost doubling up the content and removing any hollowness to it. Combine that with how difficult the hack is in certain battles, the great region design and selection of Pokemon, the Demon concept, it's one of the most polished hacks of the year.

    2. Fakemon FireRed, lots of polish, lots of love went into this. The Fakemon designs are excellent, the type combos are fascinating, including the new types in Cosmic and Digital. Kanto has some areas that got a makeover, very well done there. It's on the easy side, but so entertaining regardless.

    3. Orange Islands, the best hack of 2019 in terms of style, but it's not without substance. It's beautiful to look at, but also very fun to play. With the faithful adaptation of the Orange Islands arc in the anime, and the battles that ensue, it's a satisfying hack.

Honorable mentions: Emerald Genesis, Emerald Final, Ruby++, Throwback, Retrieved FireRed, Swore & Shilled, Aquamarine, Emerald Enhanced, Flare, Mega Moemon FireRed

  3. Had to give it to adventure red chapter. Such a great hack and very expansive with many side quests instead of just having main story

    1. There's a link on the main list and you can find info on Pokecommunity. Had no idea there was so much interest in it. I should probably make a page for it at some point.

  7. Hey Knuckle, can I plug my ROMhack list of 2019? There are some hacks that came out in 2019, so it's a bit topical.

  9. Pokemon unbound has now added dynamax. Dynamax, in a GBA game with Max Raid Battles, how couldn't I vote for it?

  10. I would add pokemon verde musgo in selection and the game is very polished and well down. Only down side is the game primarily is Portugese, however if you are familiar with mechanics and item pictures, you should be fine
